Sue Kyle – Headway UK Volunteer of the Year Finalist
Sue Kyle (together with her husband John) is a very familiar face in our region. They tirelessly fundraise for the branch by visiting local businesses to obtain donations that fuel multiple tombolas, raffles and other events during the year. This raises money for our branch, and the neurorehab Ward 29 at Castle Hill Hospital. They make links with other people who put on events and fundraise for us. They tirelessly spread the word about brain injury and the work of Headway regionally and nationally. Sue is also a huge feature in our local meetings – as one member put it, ‘Sue is always the first person to say hello and ask me how I am’.
Remarkably, Sue does this in spite of difficult personal circumstances, which she has shared recently in local and regional press, on the radio and on Look North (links below).
Sue has been shortlisted as one of three finalists for the Headway UK Volunteer of the Year award, and will attend a glitzy ceremony at The Dorchester in London on 7 December when the winner will be announced.
Sue says:
“I want to do all I can for Headway because I don’t know where John and I would be without their support which has been invaluable.
“We didn’t find out about them until two years after my injury, so now I do everything I can to make sure other people that have brain injuries can find the support they need as soon as possible.”
Good luck Sue, you’re inspiring to us all and we can’t thank you enough!
